Stony Point Democratic Committee Meeting

Rho Builidng

May 31, 2022


In Attendance: Lauren Schimko, Kim Petro, Russ Petro, Hunter Petro, Pete Reilly, Joe Spring, Jackie Spring, Danica Adler, Steve Adler, Mari Morrison Rodriguez, Rick Siggelkow, Bob Burns, Eleanor Kassner, Mike Diederch


Chairperson Lauren Schimko called the meeting to order at 7PM.


Reorganization and Elections:

  1. Chairperson - Pete Reilly

  2. Vice Chair - Rick Siggelkow

  3. Treasurer - Kim Petro

  4. Recording Secretary & Corresponding Secretary - Steve Adler

  5. Representative to Rockland County Democratic Committee - Pete Reilly

  6. Standing Committee Chairpersons were not assigned.


New Business:

We need to reach out to Democrats in Stony Point to rebuild the committee and recruit more active participation. Ideas that were discussed:

  1. Clear non-active committee members from the rolls by sending out an email with a resignation form attached.

  2. Hold regular monthly meetings of the entire committee.

  3. Hold workshop meetings every two weeks for a limited time.

  4. Ellie, Pete and others will contact new people who’ve expressed interest in getting more involved or who seem like good additions to the committee, including more people of color who are under represented in town politics.

  5. Schedule a Town Hall meeting where citizens can express their views.

  6. Schedule an Outreach event.

  7. Each committee member commits to recruiting one person to attend our next meeting.

  8. There was also a discussion on whether the committee should have its focus on national issues or primarily local issues and elections.

  9. Via email Joe Spring added that we should put together an information packet for new residents which includes voter registration information.


Our next workshop meeting is set for Wednesday June 15th, 7PM, Rho Town Board Room.


Our next official meeting is set for Wednesday June 29th, 7PM, Rho Town Board Room.
